It argues that the use of AI is creating a “Slop layer” of code that functions similarly to a high-interest loan for companies’ future, which will take significantly longer to rectify than it does to write.\n\nWe are entering an era where code is losing value, and the ability to solve problems is becoming more important. While AI use is not inherently negative, it is not all sunshine and rainbows.\n\nBefore prompting your agent, consider the following:\n\n- AI has a limited context window and excels at copying code, but it does not prioritize code reusability, componentization, or readability.\n\n- AI lacks accountability and a reward mechanism, unlike humans who experience a dopamine rush when code is completed or problems are solved. Therefore, generating more code is not always the solution; no code is the best code.\n\n- AI tends to take shortcuts when the context window is nearly full and circumvents it by either bulk replacing or adding code, which increases the risk of errors in terminal commands and potential file system damage. Limit your agent’s CLI access. Guardrails are much more valuable before disaster strikes. \n\n- Agents requires significant guidance and oversight.
