Description: I think it should be noted somewhere in documentation that targets like "python-pip" may unintentionally trigger execution of other targets if their names match the command line arguments being used. For example, let's add this rule to G...

{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"DiscussionForumPosting","headline":"Possible unintentional target invocation","articleBody":"I think it should be noted somewhere in documentation that targets like \"python-pip\" may unintentionally trigger execution of other targets if their names match the command line arguments being used.\r\n\r\nFor example, let's add this rule to `GNUmakefile`:\r\n\r\n```make\r\nralc:\r\n\ttouch $@\r\n```\r\n\r\nNow `make python-pip search ralc` will trigger both pip invocation and this rule. Using `--` doesn't help either, the behavior remains exactly the same. That is the price of the clever hack (linked below): while there is a way to read `$(MAKECMDGOALS)` there is no way (afaik) to forbid execution of those ARGS as separate targets:\r\nhttps://github.com/jeffhung/python.make/blob/59c89c380d6c85ab0dfc03258ee6fd516a5a68d3/python.make#L118\r\n\r\n---\r\nThanks for creating this project! I like the idea and I use somewhat similar Makefile in my projects :)","author":{"url":"https://github.com/sio","@type":"Person","name":"sio"},"datePublished":"2019-11-10T19:40:45.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":1},"url":"https://github.com/5/python.make/issues/5"}
