{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"DiscussionForumPosting","headline":"Community feedback needed for project's development guidelines.","articleBody":"Dear python-mode community,\r\n\r\nI've been participating on this project in the background whilst developing my\r\nown views of pymode at my own fork.\r\n\r\nI've seen some good issues and points being brought up occasionally by other\r\nusers and I think this is a good oportunity to settle on some 'rules' and\r\npractices for this project. The idea is to provide clearer guidelines on\r\ncontributing, future directions, etc.\r\n\r\nSo now its the time to speak up.\r\n\r\nAfter our conclusions on this topic I'll commit myself to be more active and\r\nassertive in closing/accepting pull requests.\r\n\r\nSo from my part I say we must have some sort of testing before accepting PRs.\r\nI will put a draft on this topic later on. You can check it out here:\r\n\r\n* https://github.com/python-mode/python-mode/blob/develop/tests/test.sh\r\n\r\nI'm marking people with recent activity below:\r\n\r\n* @AdibMurshed\r\n* @ConradP\r\n* @MadWombat\r\n* @alphaCTzo7G\r\n* @bbbco\r\n* @brycepg\r\n* @diraol\r\n* @duytrung\r\n* @fdev31\r\n* @hawkeyej\r\n* @icemanx7\r\n* @kerwinxu\r\n* @klen\r\n* @moorepants\r\n* @olalonde\r\n* @saltycraig\r\n* @smheidrich\r\n* @steven-walton\r\n* @wklm\r\n\r\n# Conclusions\r\n\r\n## PRs\r\n\r\n* Should be tested before accepted (open to discussion on methodology).\r\n\r\n## Python code\r\n\r\n* Should conform to PEP8 and PEP257 (open to discussion).\r\n\r\n## Important feature requests\r\n\r\n* Priority:\r\n * Improve python-mode's communication (including our one-liner slogan and our\r\n `readme.rst`).\r\n * Redesign our slogan (make it more IDE-like).\r\n * Redesign our `readme.rst`.\r\n * Move third party libraries to submodules.\r\n * Advantages:\r\n * Provide modularity for our code base.\r\n * Moves and unnecessary burden of keeping the code base of different\r\n projects up to date.\r\n * Allow users to handpick their preferred versions of each library.\r\n * Disadvantages:\r\n * Forces users to issue and additional git command.\r\n * Cleanup libraries and huge codebase on `pymode/libs`.\r\n * Create a roadmap of python libraries that we want to include.\r\n * We should have a clear line on what to include and not to include,\r\n specially because adding up libraries probably would give diminishing\r\n returns (there is some overlap between them).\r\n* Non priority:\r\n * Find a suitable library for completion (probably jedi).\r\n * Add support for https://github.com/google/yapf.\r\n\r\n## Contributors\r\n\r\n* Permanent contributors should be added after some time of steady\r\n participation on this project (clarification needed).","author":{"url":"https://github.com/fmv1992","@type":"Person","name":"fmv1992"},"datePublished":"2017-11-07T13:49:34.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":20},"url":"https://github.com/805/python-mode/issues/805"}
