{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"DiscussionForumPosting","headline":"3.13.0b3: undocumented change in `inspect.isroutine()` for `functools.partial`","articleBody":"# Documentation\r\n\r\nWhile investigating encode/starlette#2648, I've noticed that the behavior of `inspect.isroutine()` changed with regards to `functools.partial()`.\r\n\r\nPlease consider the following sample:\r\n\r\n```python\r\nimport inspect\r\nfrom functools import partial\r\n\r\ndef foo(x):\r\n    pass\r\n\r\np = partial(foo, 1)\r\nprint(inspect.isroutine(p))\r\n```\r\n\r\nPrior to 3.13.0b3, it would evaluate to `False`. In newer versions, it evaluates to `True`.\r\n\r\nA bisect points out that it changed as a result of 49e5740135670e04ae6da7e6f52dbe380655e0f1 (i.e. #121086). Neither the commit message, nor the news entry, hints anything about `inspect.isroutine()` behavior.\r\n\r\nCould you please clarify whether the change was intentional?
