Here's a matplotlib example from [this page](https://matplotlib.org/stable/gallery/subplots_axes_and_figures/colorbar_placement.html) (the top-left colorbar is what I'm thinking of... except as before, proplot would preserve colorbar widths and subplot aspect ratios):\r\n\r\n![tmp](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/19657652/151319982-cf1404ae-0ea1-4ee2-ab42-45fe4b51b7fc.png)\r\n\r\nThis shouldn't be too hard to implement, and will have the benefit of unifying the clunky internal implementation of \"axes-type\" and \"figure-type\" colorbars and legends.\r\n\r\nThis is also an area where [`SubplotGrid`](https://proplot.readthedocs.io/en/latest/api/proplot.gridspec.SubplotGrid.html) could really start to  shine -- similar to `SubplotGrid.format`, which calls `figure.format(axs=axs)` using the axes in the grid, I can implement `SubplotGrid.colorbar` and `SubplotGrid.legend` that respectively call `figure.colorbar(axs=axs)` and `figure.legend(axs=axs)`. This would be really succinct and intuitive -- for example, if someone has a 2-row, 3-column figure, then to draw a bottom colorbar spanning the top and bottom rows, the syntax would be `axs[0, :].colorbar(m, loc='bottom')` followed by `axs[1, :].colorbar(loc='bottom')`.","author":{"url":"https://github.com/lukelbd","@type":"Person","name":"lukelbd"},"datePublished":"2022-01-27T08:28:53.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":0},"url":"https://github.com/329/proplot/issues/329"}
