Description: This PR fixes #8145 . The type checking of strings was raising errors when non Unicode strings were passed as arguments to _validate_linestyle (that was introduced in #8040), which can easily occur under Python 2.7 for example. This PR replaces this type checking with a simple try: … except: … approach. It also adds a couple of test cases to explicitly test the situation of non Unicode arguments.
