Description: closes #31989 PR summary When inverting an axis of a 3d plot the axis and background pane got out of sync. This is a regression from previous versions. This PR fixes the bug and adds a regression test for it. Example import matplotlib.pyplot as plt fig = plt.figure() ax = fig.add_subplot(projection="3d") ax.invert_zaxis() plt.show() Resulting plot with the bug: Resulting plot after this fix: AI Disclosure AI was used as a sparring partner to get acquainted with the repository and pinpointing the possible location of the bug.
