{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"DiscussionForumPosting","headline":"plotting with TkAgg backend becomes unresponsive after a certain qt5agg backend import command","articleBody":"### Bug report\r\n\r\nI'm using a python library that happens to execute \r\n```python\r\nfrom matplotlib.backends.backend_qt5agg import FigureCanvasQTAgg as FigureCanvas\r\n```\r\nWhen I plot using the TkAgg backend in interactive mode, the figure is unresponsive, though the data shows itself in that figure if I open a new figure. \r\n\r\n**Code for reproduction**\r\n\r\n```python\r\nimport matplotlib.pyplot as plt\r\nplt.ion()\r\nfrom matplotlib.backends.backend_qt5agg import FigureCanvasQTAgg as FigureCanvas\r\nplt.figure()\r\nplt.plot([1], 'ko')     # plot a point\r\n```\r\n\r\n**Actual outcome**\r\n\r\nThe figure is unresponsive and blank, and the Mac spinning beachball symbol shows if I hover the cursor over it. \r\n\r\n**Expected outcome**\r\n\r\nThe figure is plotted and responsive. \r\n\r\n**Matplotlib version**\r\n\r\nMatplotlib version 2.0.0.\r\n\r\npython info:\r\nPython 3.5.2 |Anaconda custom (x86_64)| (default, Jul  2 2016, 17:52:12) \r\n[GCC 4.2.1 Compatible Apple LLVM 4.2 (clang-425.0.28)] on darwin\r\n\r\nMac OS X, 10.11.6\r\n\r\nEverything was installed using anaconda.
