{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"DiscussionForumPosting","headline":"Inconsistent handling of whitespace with LaTeX","articleBody":"Hi matplotlib developers,\n\nI noticed some inconstancies regarding text rendering with `usetex=True`.\nI placed the following text with `plt.text()` in my plot.\n\n```\nbegin{eqnarray*}\n\\phi \u0026=\u0026 1.00 \\pm 0.10 \\\\\na \u0026=\u0026 3.00 \\pm 0.30 m \\\\\n\\frac{\\chi^2}{ndof} \u0026=\u0026 1.13\n\\end{eqnarray*}\n```\n\nIf the plot is saved as `.png` or `.pdf`, the whitespace around the equal signs is to big:\n\u003cimg width=\"288\" alt=\"bildschirmfoto 2015-08-18 um 20 34 40\" src=\"https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/13285808/9339720/e73f6312-45eb-11e5-951c-8c2c49813cc7.png\"\u003e\n\nIf saved as `.svg` everything looks good:\n\u003cimg width=\"235\" alt=\"bildschirmfoto 2015-08-18 um 20 34 27\" src=\"https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/13285808/9339772/3106774c-45ec-11e5-9719-f052636401b3.png\"\u003e\n\nIt would be great if whitespace would be consistent in all file formats.\nA possibility to align text without LaTeX would also be greatly appreciated.\n\nThanks\n","author":{"url":"https://github.com/lgeiger","@type":"Person","name":"lgeiger"},"datePublished":"2015-08-18T19:34:57.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":4},"url":"https://github.com/4954/matplotlib/issues/4954"}
