This is confusing.\n\n### Code for reproduction\n\n```Python\nimport matplotlib.pyplot as plt\r\n\r\nfig, ax = plt.subplots()\r\nax.tick_params(labelbottom=True, labeltop=True, labelright=True, labelleft=True)\r\n\r\ntick_params = ax.get_xaxis().get_tick_params()\n```\n\n\n### Actual outcome\n\n```\r\ntick_params = {\r\n\"labelright\": True,\r\n\"labelleft\": True,\r\n# ..., no `labelbottom` or `labeltop`\r\n}\r\n```\n\n### Expected outcome\n\n```\r\ntick_params = {\r\n\"labelbottom\": True,\r\n\"labeltop\": True,\r\n}\r\n```\n\n### Additional information\n\nThe code path to this bug seems relatively clear, see [here](https://github.com/matplotlib/matplotlib/pull/23692#discussion_r1705623450).
