By default CodeCov seems to depend on the tests having been run on both current and previous commit in order to produce the report. If it has different numbers of test reports for the two commits, it fails, showing as \"indirect changes\" on a lot of files ([example](https://app.codecov.io/gh/matplotlib/matplotlib/pull/25353/indirect-changes)).\n\n### Proposed fix\n\nThis situation is described in the CodeCov docs ([point 9 here](https://docs.codecov.com/docs/unexpected-coverage-changes#reasons-for-unexpected-changes)), and [CarryForward flags](https://docs.codecov.com/docs/carryforward-flags) appear to be the recommended solution. I have not really understood the docs on CarryForward flags though.","author":{"url":"https://github.com/rcomer","@type":"Person","name":"rcomer"},"datePublished":"2023-03-05T17:25:59.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":1},"url":"https://github.com/25391/matplotlib/issues/25391"}
