We should decide and document the behaviour, partly for ourselves, and partly for third-parties using `Locator`s (cf. https://github.com/matplotlib/matplotlib/issues/11518).\r\n\r\nMy opening suggestion is that we document:\r\n\r\n\u003e `Locator`s must return at least a single tick below `vmin` and a single tick above `vmax`\r\n\r\nThis is cautious in that it always provides a tick to clip when drawing at each end of the range.\n\n### Suggested improvement\n\n_No response_","author":{"url":"https://github.com/dstansby","@type":"Person","name":"dstansby"},"datePublished":"2023-02-03T17:25:16.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":3},"url":"https://github.com/25146/matplotlib/issues/25146"}
