However, if that call is wrapped with `@mpl.rc_context` (or does some sort of caching the original `rcParams`), it saves the default value of `interactive=False` and then restores it regardless of whether or not it has been updated to True.\n\n### Code for reproduction\n\n```python\n### in an interactive environment such as a Jupyter notebook:\r\n\r\nimport matplotlib as mpl\r\nfrom matplotlib import pyplot as plt\r\nimport numpy as np\r\n\r\ny = np.linspace(1,100,100) ** 2\r\n\r\nwith mpl.rc_context({'lines.linestyle': '--'}):\r\n    plt.plot(y)\r\n\r\n\r\n### In another Jupyter cell:\r\n\r\nplt.plot(y)\n```\n\n\n### Actual outcome\n\n![image](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/23283972/199745653-1e0946e6-0446-4b11-9342-29cf8b73fc97.png)\r\n\n\n### Expected outcome\n\n![image](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/23283972/199746000-40d85e2e-ba8d-4c23-a0f6-68ee6dc7bc74.png)\r\n\n\n### Additional information\n\nIf the value of rcParams[\"interactive\"] was fetched and added to `orig` in the `finally` block [here](https://github.com/matplotlib/matplotlib/blob/0b6d3703ff43ae87815dcc891c56e7a7c50ce5ff/lib/matplotlib/__init__.py#L1111), this should fix it.
