{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"DiscussionForumPosting","headline":"figure.raise_window keyword produces inconsistent results","articleBody":"### Bug report\r\n\r\n**Bug summary**\r\n\r\nSetting the \"figure.raise_window\" keyword in rcParams to `False` results in inconsistent behavior.\r\n\r\n**Code for reproduction**\r\n\r\n```python\r\nimport matplotlib\r\nfrom matplotlib import pyplot as plt\r\n\r\nmatplotlib.use('qt5agg')\r\n\r\nif matplotlib.rcParams['figure.raise_window']:\r\n    matplotlib.rcParams['figure.raise_window'] = False\r\n\r\nplt.plot([1,2,3],[3,4,5],'.')\r\nplt.show()\r\n```\r\n\r\n**Actual outcome**\r\n\r\nIn Spyder, the initial run produces the expected outcome: the plot window appears \"behind\" the open Spyder window.\r\nHowever, subsequent runs of the same code result in the plot window \"stealing focus\".\r\n\r\nMoreover, if the code is executed from the command prompt window, the plot window always steals focus.\r\n\r\n**Expected outcome**\r\n\r\nAs I understand, if the \"figure.raise_window\" keyword is set to `False`, newly generated plot windows should not rise above the current active window.\r\n\r\n**Matplotlib version**\r\n\u003c!--Please specify your platform and versions of the relevant libraries you are using:--\u003e\r\n  * Operating system: Win10\r\n  * Matplotlib version: 3.4.2\r\n  * Matplotlib backend: Qt5Agg\r\n  * Python version: 3.7.6\r\n  * Spyder version: 5.0.0\r\n\r\nmatplotlib was installed via conda from conda-forge\r\n\r\n","author":{"url":"https://github.com/pczhang-tony","@type":"Person","name":"pczhang-tony"},"datePublished":"2021-06-11T18:14:57.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":2},"url":"https://github.com/20415/matplotlib/issues/20415"}
