{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"DiscussionForumPosting","headline":"interactive figure close with wxpython 4.1 causes freeze / crash (segfault?)","articleBody":"### Bug report\r\n\r\n**Bug summary**\r\n\r\nIn an interactive session with a wxpython PyShell, closing a matlotlib figure by clicking on the 'x' in upper right corner causes the python shell to freeze for a few seconds, then it exits without any error message.\r\n\r\n**Code for reproduction**\r\n\r\nopen PyShell with\r\npython ….\\lib\\site-packages\\wx\\py\\PyShell.py\r\n\r\nThen run:\r\n```python\r\nimport matplotlib\r\nmatplotlib.use('wxagg')\r\nmatplotlib.interactive(True)\r\nmatplotlib.pyplot.figure()\r\n```\r\nThen close the figure by clicking on the 'x' in upper right corner.\r\n\r\n\r\n**Expected outcome**\r\n\r\nFigure closes and shell can be used for further commands.\r\n\r\n**Matplotlib version**\r\n  * Operating system: Windows 10 \r\n  * Matplotlib version: 3.2.2\r\n  * Matplotlib backend (`print(matplotlib.get_backend())`): wxagg\r\n  * Python version: 3.8.3\r\n  * Other libraries: wxpython 4.1.0 msw (phoenix) wxWidgets 3.1.4\r\n\r\nInstallation procedure:\r\nInstall Winpython64-3.8.3.0dot.exe\r\nIn winpython's command prompt:\r\npip install wxpython matplotlib\r\n\r\n**Further notes**\r\n\r\nClosing the figure with the following command avoids the error:\r\n```python\r\nmatplotlib.pyplot.close('all')\r\n```\r\n\r\n","author":{"url":"https://github.com/lfriedri","@type":"Person","name":"lfriedri"},"datePublished":"2020-06-26T14:27:50.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":13},"url":"https://github.com/17769/matplotlib/issues/17769"}
