{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"DiscussionForumPosting","headline":"Freeze when setting dashed linewidth to a close-to-zero float","articleBody":"### Bug report\r\n\r\n**Bug summary**\r\n\r\nWhen setting the linewidth to a value close to zero (like 1e-15) and having a dashed linestyle in a pyplot, the application freezes.\r\n\r\n**Code for reproduction**\r\n\r\n```python\r\nfrom matplotlib import pyplot as plt\r\n\r\nx = [0,1]\r\ny = [0,1]\r\n\r\np = plt.plot(x,y, ls = \"--\", lw = 0.1, ms = 0.1, marker = \"o\", alpha = 1.0)\r\n\r\n# ok\r\n# plt.setp(p, lw = 1e-3)\r\n\r\n# freeze\r\nplt.setp(p, lw = 1e-15)\r\n\r\nplt.show()\r\n```\r\n\r\n**Actual outcome**\r\n\r\nThe window opens but no plot (not even axis) is shown, instead the window is not responding.\r\n\r\n**Expected outcome**\r\n\r\nPrimary Expectation: The application should not freeze.\r\nSecondary Expectation: Show either no line at all or as thin as displayable.\r\n\r\n**Matplotlib version**\r\n  * Operating system: Windows 7\r\n  * Matplotlib version: 2.2.4 (same with 3.1.0)\r\n  * Matplotlib backend (`print(matplotlib.get_backend())`): TkAgg (same with Qt5Agg/PySide2)\r\n  * Python version: 3.6.5 32bit\r\n\r\ninstalled with pip\r\n\r\n","author":{"url":"https://github.com/fk3","@type":"Person","name":"fk3"},"datePublished":"2019-06-08T17:12:20.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":17},"url":"https://github.com/14498/matplotlib/issues/14498"}
