This issue was already fixed for PySide in the method `matplotlib.backends.backend_qt5agg.FigureCanvasQtAgg.paintEvent`\r\nHowever, an additional check for `QT_API == 'PySide2'` is needed.\r\n\r\n**Code for reproduction**\r\n\r\n\u003c!--A minimum code snippet required to reproduce the bug, also minimizing the number of dependencies required--\u003e\r\n\r\n```python\r\nimport matplotlib\r\nmatplotlib.use('Qt5Agg')\r\nimport matplotlib.pyplot as plt\r\nplt.plot([1,2],[1,2])\r\nplt.show()\r\n```\r\n\r\n**Actual outcome**\r\n\r\nWhen a redraw of the figurecanvas is forced, the program memory increases steadily.
