Please describe.**\r\n\r\nSome timestamp-related methods don't quite work with the current string/dtype object logic. For example, I'm having a hard time getting `TIME` data types to parse as the `timedelta64[ns]` dtype.\r\n\r\nI also think this feature would be useful for extension dtypes like Fletcher (https://github.com/xhochy/fletcher) and GeoPandas (https://geopandas.org/)\r\n\r\n **Describe the solution you'd like**\r\n\r\nLook at the `dtypes` dictionary. If any value is a function / callable, save them for later. Create the initial dataframe using the other dtypes, then follow-up and call the desired transformation functions.\r\n\r\n **Describe alternatives you've considered**\r\n\r\nKeep `dtypes` a simple pass-through to pandas and either:\r\n\r\n* Let the developer call their own transformation functions.\r\n* Have second argument for transformations\r\n\r\n **Additional context**\r\n\r\nPossibly useful when setting up default dtypes #786 #793","author":{"url":"https://github.com/tswast","@type":"Person","name":"tswast"},"datePublished":"2021-07-23T20:58:36.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":2},"url":"https://github.com/807/python-bigquery/issues/807"}
