Description: This makes various style improvements: 1b79d44 fixes line endings in requirements-dev.txt. 6f4f7f5 fixes ruff configuration warnings (about the configuration itself) and enables a rule that was turned off explicitly but that we are now following. a36b8a5 enables the rule about preferring def f over f = lambda, changes the code to follow that rule, and makes associated changes to the lambda to make the use of newlines more readable, adds parameter and return type annotations where missing or incomplete, and refactors the expression of them returns for clarity. Full details are in the commit messages.
