{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"DiscussionForumPosting","headline":"Git().custom_environment(GIT_SSH_COMMAND=git_ssh_cmd) issue","articleBody":"Hey all,\r\n\r\nI am having an issue with using the custom_environment parameter.\r\nThis is on a Windows 10 machine.\r\n\r\nBasically this will not work, returning the error (see under code)\r\n```\r\nimport git\r\nfrom git import Repo\r\nfrom git import Git\r\ngit_ssh_cmd = 'ssh -i gpt_key'\r\nwith Git().custom_environment(GIT_SSH_COMMAND=git_ssh_cmd):\r\n     Repo.clone_from('git@bitbucket.org:\u003cprivate git\u003e.git', 'python_test_cloning')\r\n```\r\n\r\n\u003e git@bitbucket.org: Permission denied (publickey).\r\n\u003e fatal: Could not read from remote repository.\r\n\u003e \r\n\u003e Please make sure you have the correct access rights\r\n\u003e and the repository exists.\r\n\r\nHowever setting the env variable in the Repo.clone_from command works fine:\r\n`Repo.clone_from('git@bitbucket.org:\u003cprivate git\u003e.git', 'python_test_cloning', env={\"GIT_SSH_COMMAND\": 'ssh -i gpt_key'})`\r\n\r\nI need to be able to use the ssh key for operation other than cloning, so I need to be able to set up the local environment purely via the python interface. This also fails for reference (when I did sucessfully clone).\r\n```\r\nrepo = git.Repo(\"python_test_cloning\")\r\nwith repo.git.custom_environment(GIT_SSH_COMMAND='ssh -i gpt_key'):\r\n    for remote in repo.remotes:\r\n        remote.fetch()\r\n```\r\nwith error:\r\n\r\n\u003e git.exc.GitCommandError: Cmd('git') failed due to: exit code(128)\r\n\u003e   cmdline: git fetch -v origin\r\n\u003e   stderr: 'fatal: Could not read from remote repository.\r\n\u003e \r\n\u003e Please make sure you have the correct access rights\r\n\u003e and the repository exists.'\r\n\r\n\r\nAny ideas of why this is not working and how to fix it?\r\nRemember that this is Windows 10.\r\n\r\nThanks,\r\nCaptainJL\r\n\r\n\r\n","author":{"url":"https://github.com/CaptainJL","@type":"Person","name":"CaptainJL"},"datePublished":"2019-09-09T02:49:46.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":7},"url":"https://github.com/916/GitPython/issues/916"}
