{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"DiscussionForumPosting","headline":"Provide a way to pass a whole configuration as parameter","articleBody":"\r\n## Problem\r\n\r\nAs a user of GitHub CodeQL in Actions I would like to be able to pass some configuration when running my workflow, for example:\r\n- pass a query filter from or environment variable or input parameter\r\n\r\nToday only a subset of the available configuration/parameters is available in the action.\r\n\r\n## Solution\r\n\r\nAdd a new parameter, for example called `configuration` that will take the same format as a `config-file` but can be used directly in the action.\r\n\r\nThe idea is to support the following examples:\r\n\r\n- Complete on configuration\r\n  ```yaml\r\n  - uses: github/codeql-action/init@v2\r\n    with:\r\n      languages: ${{ matrix.language }}\r\n      configuration: |\r\n        disable-default-queries: true\r\n        queries:\r\n          - uses: security-extended\r\n          - uses: security-and-quality\r\n        query-filters:\r\n          - include:\r\n        tags: /cwe-020/\r\n  ```\r\n\r\n- Actions Variable\r\n  ```yaml\r\n  - uses: github/codeql-action/init@v2\r\n    with:\r\n      languages: ${{ matrix.language }}\r\n      configuration: |\r\n            ${{vars.CODEQL_CONF}}    \r\n  ```\r\n\r\n- Input Parameter\r\n    ```yaml\r\n      - uses: tgrall/codeql-action/init@query-filter\r\n      with:\r\n        languages: ${{ matrix.language }}\r\n        configuration: |\r\n          disable-default-queries: true\r\n          queries:\r\n            - uses: security-extended\r\n            - uses: security-and-quality\r\n          query-filters:\r\n            - include:\r\n                tags: /${{ github.event.inputs.codeql-include-tags }}/ \r\n   ```\r\n\r\n","author":{"url":"https://github.com/tgrall","@type":"Person","name":"tgrall"},"datePublished":"2023-03-18T13:31:58.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":1},"url":"https://github.com/1589/codeql-action/issues/1589"}
