{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"DiscussionForumPosting","headline":"Randomize question order within a survey","articleBody":"### Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.\n\nFormbricks currently lets you shuffle *options* within a question (multiple choice, ranking, matrix rows), but there is no way to randomize the *order of the questions* themselves. For research and methodologically sound surveys this is important to control for order/sequence effects, where the position of a question biases responses to later ones.\n\n### Describe the solution you'd like\n\nA setting to randomize the order in which questions are presented to each respondent, similar to the existing \"shuffle options\" dropdown. Ideally:\n\n- A survey-level (or question-group-level) toggle to randomize question order.\n- The ability to **pin/fix** certain questions in place (e.g. welcome screen, intro, demographics, or a final feedback question), while only the questions in between are shuffled.\n- Optionally: randomize within defined blocks/groups rather than the whole survey, so logically related questions stay together.\n- The randomized order should be stored per response so results remain analyzable.\n\n### Additional context\n\n- Creating multiple survey variants with different question orders and splitting respondents manually — high maintenance, not truly randomized.\n- Abusing logic jumps to build branching paths — complex and not real randomization.\n\nOption shuffling already exists (#248, #3156), so the UX pattern and data model for \"shuffle\" are established; this would extend the same concept from options to questions.","author":{"url":"https://github.com/flow-systems","@type":"Person","name":"flow-systems"},"datePublished":"2026-06-17T09:37:24.000Z","interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"https://schema.org/CommentAction","userInteractionCount":0},"url":"https://github.com/8305/formbricks/issues/8305"}
